Friendship Silver for Irish U-21 team.
The Republic of Ireland U-21 Darts team failed in their bid to stop England winning their 6th consecutive 4 Nation Youth Friendship Trophy Title in six years as the 6th annual running of the event was played out in Derby, England at the weekend.
In what was a decicive match The Republic led England 5-4, but lost the remaining six games to end with a dissappointing 10-5 defeat. The Northern Ireland and Scotland sides both left Derby having equally terrible tournaments. Northern Ireland suffered a most humiliating 15-0 defeat to England in the final round of games- a scorline which was not witnessed in the tournament before.
The Roscommon members on the panel done their county proud yet again with all four putting in worthwhile performances. Ballinaheglish's Gary Concannon won the first game of the tournament for The Republic who went on to beat their Northern counterparts 11-4. Gary also contributed to the 9-6 win over Scotland winning again. Gary's older brother David took part in one match which did not go his way. Ballymacglancy's Mark Finneran won one and lost one. Ballaghaderreen's Sean Fleming- had an outstanding weekend, coming runner-up in Friday's Friendship singles out of 60 to England's Michael Smith. He also won two of his three games in the Friendship Trophy against Northern Ireland and England. And out of 70 players he reached the semi-finals of the Sunday Singles. All four are elegible for next years event which will be down for decision in Dublin in May 2009.

Carpet Bob Cup.
The presentation of the prestigious Carpet Bob Cup took place in Spell's Bar, Ballaghaderreen last Friday night with an emotional Denis Coffey accepting the Cup on behalf of his Spell's side who emerged 12-8 victors after an epic battle with The Rest of the World. In a speech which bore many similarities to his recent County League acceptance speech he went on to thank everybody who took part, his own team members, and gave three cheers for the Rest of the World side who gave it their all. Preparations for next years event are already underway.
