Youths Darts

Roscommon Youths Darts
When Roscommon won it's first I.N.D.O. All Ireland Youths Title in February 2004 under the guidance of Tommy Beirne, it was an outstanding achievement for a County that had only been competing in The All Ireland's for 5 years. Roscommon had been extremely unlucky not to win at it's first attempt- and for one reason or another- all the members of that panel in 1999 never got to win an All Ireland at youths level, some have not played for the county at any level since. .
The years in between 1999 and 2004 provided many memorable moments for youths in all competitions.
Padraig Kearney from Castleplunkett was one of the best youths ever to play for Roscommon. His talent was recognised nationally and made his debut on the Irish 15-a-side team in November 2002. Ballaghaderreen's Gavin Conway came within millimetres of becoming Irish Youth Master also in November 2002. Also from Ballaghaderreen Noel Tuohy was a participant in the Winmau World Masters in 04 and 05- rewarded for his consistent play throughout that 2 year period. Sean Fleming has become one of Ireland's most capped youths- featuring in all 5 Youth Friendship Trophy (YFT) Events to date, 2 Europe Cups in Holland 05 and Germany 06.
Two Boyle players lifted those 2 All Ireland titles. Keelan Woods 04 and David Conroy in 05. David had a spell playing national youths darts in 04, 06 and 07 at the YFT.
Roscommon have been Runners-up in the last two All Ireland' s beaten by Clare in 06 and in 07 to Cork. With the 2008 season almost upon us the Roscommon panel to participate in The WCC and All Ireland Intercounties bears alot of similiaraties to last years panel. Hopes are high that both Titles can come back to the County again, and continue to build on the achievements of the past.

Hannon's Hotel Christmas Singles .
Mac's of Roscommom player Gerry Murphy was the big winner at The Hannon's Hotel Christmas Singles Tournament held on Sunday last. A ''Houdini'' act in the final seen him beat Ballaghaderreen's Sean Fleming on a 6-4 scoreline- having been 4-0 down. Only a week ago Fleming lost in the final of The Tommy Kenny Cup, at Creaton's of Loughlynn, and on form would have been favourite in this final- but a battling Murphy conjoured up a little bit of Christmas magic to pull of a very memorable come back. Kenny Cup winner last week Mick Egan was out by the Last 16. Highest checkouts on the day were Martin Murphy 130,Thomas Concannon 128, Robbie Dolan 120, Paul Carton 113, Mark Finneran 112.
Last 16- S.Finan 3 M.Egan 1; J.Reilly 3 M.Finneran 0; S.Fleming 3 P.Carton 2;G.Concannon 3 R.Dolan 1; T.Concannon 3 P.Reid 0; A.Bradley 3 P.Tansey 2; G.Murphy 3 F.Duffy 1; M.Murphy 3 K.Wesolowski 1
Last 8- Sean Finan 4 Jimmy Reilly 0; Sean Fleming 4 Gary Concannon 1; Thomas Concannon 4 Austin Bradley 2; Gerry Murphy 4 Martin Murphy 3.
Semi's-; Sean Fleming 5 Sean Finan 4; Gerry Murphy 5 Thomas Concannon 3.
Final-; Gerry Murphy 6 Sean Fleming 4.

Anita Murphy- no relation to Mens winner Gerry Murphy- was a deserving winner of the Ladies Singles with a 3-1 victory over Deborah McKeon in the Final.
Last 8- Barbara Victory 2 Trina Gulliver 0; Deborah McKeon 2 Kathy Fleming 0; Lori Hoare 2 Phil Carney 0; Anita Murphy 2 Rachael McKeon 0.
Semi's- D.McKeon 3 B.Victory 0; A.Murphy 3 L.Hoare 1.
Final- A.Murphy 3 D.McKeon 1.

The youths Singles produced a very high quality final with cousins David and Thomas Concannon contesting it for honours. A 4-1 win for David was a bit flattering as Thomas was never too far behind at any stage. David's run in the Mens Singles was cut short by Sean Finan. Thomas' run ended at the Semi final stage to eventual winner Gerry Murphy.
Last 8; David Concannon 3 Fred Claus 0; Mark Finneran 3 Kevin Fleming 1; Thomas Concannon 3 Chris Finan 0; Gary Concannon 3 Robbie Dolan 0.
Semi's; D.Concannon 3 M.Finneran 1; T.Concannon 3 G.Concannon 1.
Final; D.Concannon 4 T.Concannon 1.
